Of the more than 130 adult education programs across the Commonwealth, VEP was recently rated Number One in performance over a three-year period by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Bureau of Adult Basic and Literacy Education. Performance is measured against 26 Indicators of Program Quality established by the Department.

The Volunteer English Program (VEP) celebrates 20 years of making communities stronger by providing free English tutoring to thousands of America’s newcomers. VEP helps limited English-speaking adults in Chester County improve their English reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.

With better English skills and an understanding of American culture, they can more effectively perform their adult roles as family members, workers and community participants. They move from being served toward self-sufficiency, from needing support services to becoming contributing members of their communities, which in turn are revived by their consumerism and entrepreneurship.
VEP is appealing to the community for more people to become tutors. VEP tutors about 200 students a year and has a waiting list of roughly half that number.  Click Here to learn how you can become a tutor, or call 610/918-8222.
